420 Tonne Generator
With one of the heaviest loads they’ve ever had to carry on the roads of Switzerland, Friderici Special took on the task of providing specialist transport logistics for a 420 Tonne Generator.
This cumbersome cargo required up to four ballast tractors to push and pull the 12x3 axle specialist loaded trailer throughout the route. With an overall weight of 660 Tonnes the entire combination slowly made the journey across Switzerland through quite villages lined with spectators. After numerous challenges, street furniture removals, 13° inclines and several hours the 420 Tonne cargo safely arrived at the delivery site at Leibstadt Power Station.
Commissioned in 1984, Leibstadt Power Station is Switzerland’s youngest and most powerful operating reactors. With the installation of a new low pressure turbine in 2010 Leibstadt achieved an increase of 40 megawatts, with the addition of the new generator the power plant will significantly improve its performance.
